The Heritage Motor Centre first opened its doors to the public in May 1993. Purpose-built to house the collection held by the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, the building was designed to impress with its sweeping curves and Art-Deco style interior.
The Collection
The collection on display charts the development of the British motor industry from 1896 right up to the exciting innovations of the present day.
The origin of the collection dates back to 1974, when a new division of British Leyland was formed to preserve the Company's collection of historic vehicles. By 1983 links had been made with other British motor manufacturers, and the collection was given charitable status, becoming the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust (Charity No. 286575). Since its conception, the collection has expanded to include many of Britain's most famous motoring names from Riley and Austin, to Aston Martin and Land Rover.
The Archive
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust has one of the finest archives of motor-industry related material in the world. This spans more than 100 years - as old as the industry itself. There are over 750,000 images, miles of film footage and countless business records, workshop manuals and sales brochures. There are also personal records of the life and works of three of the industry's most important figures Herbert Austin, William Morris and Alec Issigonis.
The Conference Centre
The purpose-built conference facilities not only present an unusual setting but also offer the flexibility for all types of conferences, meetings and events.
The Conference Suite accommodates 500 delegates theatre style and can easily be transformed into two soundproof lecture rooms if required. A dedicated entrance and private reception area provide an impressive welcome. An additional suite comprising two separate, but identical, lecture rooms, offers a further choice of comfortable and spacious working environments.
These facilities are complemented by a variety of modern syndicate and meeting rooms catering for groups of 5 to 50.
We also have a magnificent boardroom with a glass viewing panel that overlooks the museum's impressive car collection below a most prestigious venue for formal meetings.
And for those special occasions, we offer our rooftop restaurant where visitors can enjoy the highest standards of cuisine in a spectacular setting with panoramic views across the beautiful Warwickshire countryside.
Our 65 acres of secluded, private grounds are ideally suited to outdoor and team-building events. Clients can make use of our corporate Land Rover 4x4 track, offering their delegates the chance to get-behind-the-wheel and put a Land Rover through its paces.
There are also two large outdoor event arenas, which can be hired for private use - providing the perfect base for marquees or activities requiring a hard-standing surface.
