Every year on the first Sunday in November, hundreds of veteran cars congregate at Hyde Park, London for the annual pilgrimage to Brighton. This year the Heritage Motor Centre has kindly given permission for a single seat on one of their rare cars to be auctioned on the Web in aid of Cancer Research UK charity.
Anyone interested in bidding for a seat on a rare 1901 Wolseley ten horse power tonneau on Sunday 7th November, should visit the E-Bay website http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2274560259. Bidding starts from 500 at 12 noon on Friday 15th until 25th October. The highest bidder wins a place on this historic veteran car run.
The offer includes dinner-bed-and-breakfast for one winner and a friend (age restriction 21-70 years) to stay overnight in a twin-bedded room at the four-star Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington, London as a guest of the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust.
A full programme of events for the weekend starts at the hotel on the Saturday afternoon (6th Nov). A private dinner party in the evening; an early start on Sunday morning up at 0530 hours! Arrive at Hyde Park for 0700, an opportunity to view the other vehicles entered for the Run then set off at approximately 0745 for a long ride to Brighton sometimes takes 3 - 4 hours and the possibility of inclement weather! Half-way stop for brunch at 11.30 a.m. before continuing the journey to Brighton.
It is certainly a ride of a lifetime, an opportunity not to be missed that is highly recommended by those who have taken part.
The annual run commemorates the Emancipation Run of 1896 when over thirty pioneer motorists set off for Brighton to celebrate the abolition of the "Red Flag" Act, which required a person to walk in front of every motorcar warning on coming traffic.
