The 1902 Albion Dog Kart will be one of six veteran cars entered by the BMIHT on the London to Brighton Run due to take place on 7th November 2004.  Spectators are welcome to come and see the cars as they depart Hyde Park Corner at 07.30 on Sunday morning.

The Albion Motor Car Company was founded by Norman Fulton and Thomas Blackwood Murray in Glasgow on 30 December 1899 and they sold their first A1 dogcart in 1900.  The 'dog cart' took its name from a type of horse drawn carriage which has an enclosed space for dogs under the seat, a convenient place to put the engine on the motorised version.  Though rather dated by 1900, the dog-cart was still popular in Scotland.

This Albion has a horizontally opposed twin engine with water cooling.  It was originally fitted with tiller steering but was converted to wheel steering early in its career.  Albion produced several other models of motor car but, in 1913, they decided to drop private car production in favour of commercial vehicles.  In 1951 they were taken over by Leyland Motors.
