The Nick Baldwin Project
The British Motor Industry Heritage Trust has recently acquired the Nick Baldwin Collection, put together over many years by a leading motor vehicle historian. The Collection contains an impressive range of documents and photographs extending over many different marques, plus a wealth of information about social and industrial history throughout the twentieth century. The subject matter of the Nick Baldwin Collection perfectly complements that of the Trust's other Archive Collections.
With the assistance of the Heritage Lottery Fund we are now embarking on a major project to preserve the Nick Baldwin Collection for the benefit of the nation and to ensure proper access to it for the future so that as many people as possible can enjoy it. Over the next two years we will be carrying out:
- Appraisal, sorting and cataloguing of the Collection to prepare it for public access.
- Construction of a Website to provide remote access to completed catalogues and other interpretative material including educational resource material which can be downloaded by schools and other users.
- Preparation of a new permanent Exhibition 'Going Places', on the theme of public versus private transport with an emphasis on life-long learning and participation.
- Launch of a smaller scale travelling Exhibition for loan to other museums and archives, schools, libraries and community centres.
