Mini Wizadry on Wheels

MINI - Wizardry on Wheels Ref: 1029 Price: 14.99

The impact the introduction of the Mini had on the world of car design was out of all proportion to its size. Almost without exception, car designers and manufacturers have followed the example set by Issigonis and most cars you see on the road today have front wheel drive and a transverse engine, lying east west across the car. Yet the creation of the Mini and its enduring survival is probably more the result of accident and good fortune than careful strategy, planning and marketing. There were times when the car was very nearly abandoned as a failure. This is a new perspective on the amazing story of the Mini, using the most comprehensive collection of Mini archive film footage, much of it recently discovered, including TV and cinema advertisements, launch films, period promotional productions. Also included is rare foot of Issigonis' wartime projects including his "Mini Tank", as well as footage from an original Italian Job trailer. The programme includes interviews with key people involved in the car's extraordinary story including: Sir Graham Day, the former Rover Group Chairman; John Cooper, who was responsible for the famous Mini Cooper; as well as rare interview footage with Sir Alec Issigonis himself. MINI is narrated by actor Hugh Laurie. This is a specially extended video version of the Central TV documentary and includes over twenty more minutes of rarely seen original archive material.

Duration: 55 minutes approximately
