Conservation

Looking after more than 250 motor cars is quite a task.  At the Centre, the Trust's expert staff make sure that the collection is kept in the best possible order.  Many of the cars are maintained in working order and can be seen running on an occasional basis.  When the cars are on display in the museum, they also receive regular attention, making sure that they will survive for many future generations to enjoy.

Not every car comes to the collection looking as new.  Each car is assessed on the basis of historical value and physical condition before the best course of conservation work is decided.  Some may be restored to reflect the condition they were in when they left the production line, others have more sympathetic treatment to preserve their originality. The Trust works regularly with other museums to constantly improve the best practice for vehicle conservation.
