Classic Rallying 1956/58 Ref: 1014 Price: 14.99
THE 8TH TULIP RALLY 1956 An interesting field of cars entered this classic event which starts in the north, winds its way to the Mediterranean and then back to Holland where the final test is a time trial around the Zandvoort circuit. This was the year of the small car as the handicap system penalised the large cars out of the results. However it didn't stop Jaguar, Porsche, Mercedes or Riley going for it all the way. The little Gogomobile didn't win, nor did the Citroen 2CVs, but the Austin A30 did, followed by a horde of Standard 8s which won the Team Prize. (25 minutes).
THE MONTE CARLO RALLY 1958 This excellent film follows Paris starters as they first encounter the congestion of the French Capital, then the snowy conditions that marked this event as one of the most gruelling of the period. It was an achievement to finish, let alone win, and only thirty eight out of the three hundred and three starters actually made it to the end. In the words of the Raymond Baxter commentary, this event 'silenced the critics who said the Monte Carlo Rally was not the adventure of bygone days.' (26 minutes).
Duration: 51 minutes approximately
