LE MANS (1955)
The most infamous motor race in history, due to the tragic crash that killed eighty spectators. Up until that moment the 1955 Le Mans 24-Hour Race had been the scene of a titanic struggle between Britain and Germany, Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz. Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio in a Mercedes 300SLR, equipped with a flap air-brake, held off the challenge of the disc-braked D-Type Jaguar of Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb. Mercedes withdrew their team after the accident , and from racing for more than thirty years, and the Jaguars went on to a 1-2-3 clean sweep. Of the twenty-one finishers, thirteen were British, and among them was a team of three Triumph TR2s . (20 minutes)


SPITFIRES AT LE MANS (1964)
Three prototype GT Spitfires were entered for the 1964 Le Mans and found themselves amongst formidable company . Driving in other cars were Graham Hill, John Surtees, Innes Ireland, Phil Hill, Paddy Hopkirk & Dan Gurney to name but a few. While the battle raged at the front, two of the Spitfires crashed with only one finishing intact, averaging 100 mph and reaching speeds up to 136 mph. (30 minutes)
